Dog Faced Man Link

An Amazing Portrait Composition of a Legendary Circus Sideshow Performer

”THE RUSSIAN DOG FACED MAN” is a Genuine Signed And Dated Ari Roussimoff Oil on Canvas Painting, measuring a large sized 24 x 30 inches. It hails from the year 2005. Here, the artist creates a vigorous metaphoric portrait composition devoted to Adrian Jeftichew (pronounced Jefticheff) a once famous carnival performer afflicted with Hypertrichosis, a condition causing massive hair growth. Jeftichew was promoted as being the father of an equally hirsute son who grew up to become known as Jo-Jo the “Dog Faced Boy” and once employed by P. T. Barnum. Within the hairy cheeked face of this unique individual, eyes peer out that are filled with incredible humanity. Roussimoff does not choose to depict his subject as a mere circus sideshow “Freak”. There is nothing at all of caricature here. There is an amazing soulfulness to this representation that is most inspiring. In this fairytale-like composition, Jeftichew, pipe in hand appears in almost regal majesty. He is garbed in a uniform similar to that of the Czar. To the artist, this is what he was born to wear because in standing apart from the majority he constitutes his own royalty. The Dog-Faced-Man is rendered in warm, sensitive colors and imaginatively contrasted against the cold of the winter landscape. The snowy Russian village with its onion domed Orthodox Church is seen in the distance. And a framework of carnival jesters, musicians, exotic dancers and a bearded lady with her son surrounds the legendary performer.

This Beautiful Oil Painting will make a great addition to anyone’s fine collection of Modern Impressionist and Expressionist Art. The purchaser will receive a signed certificate of authenticity.
